About this Meetup

You may wonder, what exactly is the Orange County Anime Group (or OCAG for short)? What do we do, who are we, why is this group around? First, answer these questions:

1) Do you enjoy watching anime?
2) Do you enjoy reading manga?
3) Do you enjoy cos-playing?
4) Do you in general enjoy all things related to Japanese culture?
5) Do you have friends who think you're a bit weird for your obsession to the above?

Interested in knowing more? Well, If you answered Yes to even one of the above questions, then read on:

What is the OCAG? Why was this group created?

The OCAG is a group of passionate anime fans that was designed for people like you, by people like you, people who share a common passion for all things anime related. Our members are people looking to connect and meet other like minded individuals with which to discuss and watch the latest anime titles, as well as the classics in a casual, relaxed atmosphere.

In addition to anime viewing, OCAG is also a great place to showcase and discuss your favorite mangas as well as showing off your favorite cos-play costume, again in a relaxed and casual atmosphere!

What do you do in OCAG? What are meet ups like?

First and foremost, the OCAG is all about the watching and discussing of anime (it is in our group title after all). We usually gather once a month in either the comforts of another member's home or in a more social venue such as a community clubhouse to watch anime.

Though we're currently in the process of figuring out a more concrete viewing schedule for monthly meet ups, what we may watch usually varies from meet up to meet up. You may not know much about anime, but once you've been to a few meet ups, you'll find out that there is so much more to the anime world than what is shown on TV; you may see some titles that you've never even heard of as well as titles you may already be familiar with...rest assured, you will come to find new favorites in titles you may never have known about otherwise!

Do you have to live in Orange County to join?

We have members coming from all over OC, LA and even Riverside counties to take part in the fun that is OCAG; so if you can make it out to a meet up, we want to meet you!

Are there any requirements for joining the group?

A general appreciation of anime, manga, cosplay, generally all things related to Japanese culture.

We also ask that minors not show up unattended as we may occasionally show mature titles and our meet ups tend to run into the wee hours of the morning.

Lastly, we are a bunch of anime fans who take pleasure in its entertainment value and as such as such, would ask that you not join our group if all you plan to do is show up and create a hostile environment in an attempt to ruin everyone else's fun!

So, do you only meet once a month? Do you only discuss anime and nothing else?

To answer the first question, our regular meet ups are once monthly, but that doesn't mean the fun stops there...we are also a social group as well and as such, we do have non anime related gatherings such as movie outings, mini golfing and whatever else sounds like fun.

We, the organizers believe that these social outings are a great way for new members to get in on the fun of being apart of this group and also a great way to meet other members, all without the possible awkwardness of going to a complete stranger's house for the first time and not knowing who anyone is.

As to the second question, while anime may be the main focus; members also have many other varying interests as well outside of anime, so chances are, there is always something to talk about besides anime.

Do I have to cosplay at every meet up?

Cosplay is encouraged at meet ups, but not at all required! So, if you want to show off your favorite costumes, you are more than welcome to. If that's something you only do for cons, simply come as you are; we don't judge here!

What about Cons?

Anime Expo (AX) and Comic Con are particularly important times of the year for us, so of course you can expect to find at least a few of us hanging out at each of these conventions as well as the many smaller conventions held throughout the year.

At AX especially, we usually get together at least one of the days of the con to enjoy the experience that is AX as a group and to make a full day of checking out the exhibits, panels, shows, etc. while showing off our costumes (if that's your thing).

What if I have a problem with another member or have suggestions for the group?

If you have problems with another member and you can't settle the issue with the other member, feel free to contact one of the organizers; we want everyone to enjoy this group free of conflict and we're more than happy to help out!

If you have a suggestion for an anime title that you'd like to see at our monthly meet ups, post it on the message boards; chances are, one of the organizers (and certainly other members) will see your suggestion and go from there...communication is a key to helping this group continue to grow and it allows members to express themselves!

The same goes for any suggestions you may have regarding non-anime related social gatherings we can do as a group...make it known on the message boards and chances are your suggestion may pop up on the group calendar.

Does it cost anything to join? Are donations mandatory?

Joining the group is FREE, there is no obligation to pay fees or dues, etc. The suggested donations you see are purely voluntary and while you don't have to make any donations, they are very greatly appreciated (whether it is the suggested $2 or some other amount).

Donations help in offsetting the costs of running this group, from Meetup.com fees to other expenses such as venue rentals/equipment costs, snacks and food provided at meet ups, etc.

Any other membership requirements?
If you've read this far, you can probably tell that we're a pretty relaxed and casual group. If you're interested in anime, manga, games, what-not, or just want to meet cool people to hang out with, you're always welcome to join us; we'd love to meet you!

On the flip side, no one is under any obligation to join in any of our activities just because a member exists on our site. However, we ask that only legitimate members join our group.

This doesn't mean that if none of us ever sees you that you will be removed from our meet up group. But if our organizers feel that a member has joined our site's group solely to promote other entities, we will remove such members.

Well, that's OCAG in a nutshell (if a long winded one)...if you have any further questions regarding this group, please feel free to contact one of the organizers; we look forward to seeing you at one of our meet ups real soon!
