This month, The Hammond Museum - a Japanese Museum & Stroll Garden - is conducting a Moon viewing picnic and concert on the 29th - as part of this, there will be a tea ceremony. In addition, the museum has on display (until September 19), special exhibits such as "Where a Buddha Walked" - 'Photographic images from India, China, & Japan' and Zen Stitches quilts and "Sculptor, Akio Ohmori's World - Metal works by the Japanese wooden sculptor."

For the Moon Viewing Picnic & Concert - the following are the known details so far:
Garden opens at 6:30. Reservations are necessary. No outside food.

7:00 pm Tea Ceremony by Michael McKenna
8:30pm Concert

Museum is only open 12-4 and will re-open at 6:30.
Additional hours and guided tours are available for groups of 10 or more.

I request that members who are interested in attending this RSVP quickly so that if 10 people are able to come, then I can phone and request a guided tour for us for earlier in the afternoon.

In addition, 10 minutes away from the museum is a fantastic Asian Bistro called Haiku (in Cross River).

When you RSVP tell me if you want to do dinner at HAIKU say around 4/4:30? That way we can get to the Museum in time for the garden opening.

The Hammond Museum is best known for its stroll garden - a gorgeous Japanese garden designed for contemplation: every design element is carefully planned to give structure to an idea. The rocks, sand, water and plants create a microcosmic universe in which the whole is more than the sum of its parts.

Admission to the Museum, Garden and Cafe is free with membership or $5 for adults, $4 for seniors, children under 12 are free. The Garden Cafe - Silk Tree Cafe - serves American casual lunch fare only from 12-3.

I will be there from 10 a.m. on with some good friends and will be attending the anime screenings and panels from 11 a.m. on.

If you plan on definitely attending, and would like to *try* to meet up with my friends and I, and other group members (if they want to), I will be attending the following events:

Yen Press 1:45
Either the Funimation or the Intellectual Property Panels 2:45-3:45.

I will be leaving the venue probably sometime after the last panel.

It will be very difficult to do a meet-up at a huge venue and festival such as this so this meet-up posting is simply to let all members know of this festival. If we somehow run in to each other - great! If not, I will be scheduling a new meet-up event soon! Have fun & enjoy the festival!

Got your ticket to the New York Anime Festival? Awesome! Your ticket will get you in the door and get you access to our Exhibition Hall, hundreds of panels and screening, contests, performances, autograph sessions, and Q&As with all of our guests. But what if you want more? The New York Anime Festival has a short list of Special Events that require an additional ticket to enter. Friday 8/26 It Aint Easy Panel - 4:15p Come learn how the Indies do it at this fun and informative panel hosted by Animefood/Gaku-X/Chu magazines. Topics will include how to do it yourself in these areas: Bands, Mags, Events, Photography. Echostream will take part of this panel.
Saturday 8/27 Precon Breakfast - 10am @ Cupcake Cafe
Saturday 8/27 FETES Booth - 10am+ Members from echostream will be at the FETES/Karaterice booth all day signing autographs and selling merchandise. Get your echostream CDs, posters, t-shirts, stickers, whatever signed and meet the band! Catch Zlade while hes at the booth if you want photos with the band.
Saturday 8/27 HappyFunSmile - 11:30am Catch HappyFunSmile put on a unique performance.
Saturday 8/27 Love Etc. - 2:30p Share the love and beautiful music put on by Love Etc. whom will perform their hearts out. Another band beloved and friends with several of our members.
Saturday 8/27 Finding Anime in NYC Panel - 1:45pm hosted by our very own Clyde Adams III
Saturay 8/27 FETES Concert at Knitting Factory - 7pm Catch Echostream perform as well as other exceptional bands at this seperate concert. Requires additional admission.

The live-action Death Note motion picture comes out on DVD on September 16. Want it early? There's only one place to go -- Kinokuniya Bookstore. Kinokuniya Bookstore, VIZ Pictures, and the New York Anime Festival will present a day-long series of events celebrating the US DVD release of the Death Note motion picture by VIZ Pictures, and the first 50 fans to purchase the Death Note movie on DVD at Kinokuniya on September 14 will receive a limited-edition Death Note theatrical poster from VIZ Pictures.

4:00 to 4:30 PM: Samurai Beat Radio. Samurai Beat Radio, broadcast in 26 cities in Japan, comes to Kinokuniya to record a special Death Note show. They're here to learn about what's hooked America on this Japanese phenomenon

4:30 to 5:00 PM: Death Note Behind The Scenes. First it was a manga. Then, it turned into an anime. Now, Death Note becomes flesh and blood. Learn what it took to bring this anime and manga to the big screen with this special Behind The Scenes footage!
